Reading Schemes to Teach Reading
A word of warning about reading schemes.
When teaching a younger child to
read examine the content of each book you introduce to your child within
a reading scheme. If you are reading a book with a 3 year old you don’t
want to have to explain the theme of pet euthanasia to a child of this age.
One reading scheme had a book in the series about an old dog being put to
sleep at a visit to the Vets. You may feel comfortable about dealing with
this topic with a 7 year old, but it is not really an appropriate discussion
for a younger child.
